Isaac Ortega, a senior at Los Alamos High School (LAHS), is one of 14 New Mexico students named as winners of National Merit $2,500 Scholarships.
In addition, nine LAHS seniors are among 1,000 distinguished students receiving corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards financed by about 140 corporations, company foundations and other business organizations.
Filippo Delzanno, Karin Ebey, Mirabell Gerts, Shena Han, Anthony Lestone, Griffin Light, Aidan McCleskey, Konstantin Nelson and Audrey Nolen were selected as winners of the National Merit Battelle Scholarship.

The installation of outdoor learning shade structures at school sites in the district began this week with holes being drilled for poles at Chamisa Elementary School in White Rock.
Piñon Elementary School in White Rock will be next, followed by Aspen, Barranca and Mountain elementary schools in Los Alamos and Los Alamos Middle School and Los Alamos High School.
“We want to thank Los Alamos County for funding this project,” Superintendent Kurt Steinhaus said. “The opportunity for outdoor learning will benefit both our students and staff well-being.”
