politicians, especially republican politicians, they have made the calculation that it s not going to hurt them to defend the president with this audit thing, because the president still won. but do you think that s a good political calculation? that s up to them to decide in their districts, i suppose. you heard all the boos. you did hear boos. that was interesting, because when you look at polls, donald trump supporters don t really care he didn t release his taxes. they voted for him, they re fine with that. but it is interesting that republicans are getting some heat for this, and i think that exchange also shows that trump owes more of an explanation than i m under audit at this point. we ve been hearing that for more than a year. billionaires have very complicated tax returns. they can file extensions, they can be under audit for many years. none of that is surprising at all. but to just say i m not releasing them because i m under audit doesn t fly with the american peop
opttion option alty out there. it wasn t just it wasn t just about the audit that prevented the campaign from releasing his tax returns? i think the president wants to maintain that position it was related to the audit because, again i literally i heard him say this on the campaign trail. i heard him say it in front of an open mic. he didn t want 500 people looking at it, questioning every single thing in the return and having that be cannon fire or powder for the auditors. for me, you have to remember why he got elected. he is a phenomenal business person and a great deal cutter. it turns out that he is a fairly nifty political strategist. his decision not to let out the returns i think was a good one. we should point out on the audit thing i m a broken record on this. his attorneys did release a letter saying that his returns prior to 2003 or 2004 are not under audit. look, i mean, it s obvious that donald trump is guilty of rank hypocrisy. that he says things you
spree of going through his taxes and just make life miserable for him, well, okay, every candidate haz has kind of had to live through that and most of them have survived it, so why would he not be able to survive it? and that s really where advisers to the president have increasingly gone in defending the decision. this audit thing, clearly a political fig leaf for a long time. his 2016 taxes are not under audit, if they haven t been filed yet, right? so, that s not an excuse not to release them. so, i think what you hear in that town hall footage and increasingly from members of congress is, look, we all know this is a political choice and that they don t necessarily need to play along. stand by for more on that. thanks so much. coming up, the balance of power in congress hanging in the balance. too much? did i go too far? maybe. not if you look, though, at all of the muscle and money weighing in on a special election race in georgia right now. voting under way right now. is it
why don t you release trump s tax physical transparency as soon as his audit is completed. do you think anybody believes the audit thing? absolutely. do you have any proof of an audit? yes, of course. have you seen an audit letter? chris, let s not get away from the fact that is the fact. transparency only works one way in this election. chris, i appreciate the effort i m just saying what it is. i ll show you an audit letter i got. well, some day when i get to make as much money as you do. i don t know what you re making. i hope you get paid a lot for this. the foundation is still under criminal investigation. that s bad. but why lie about what s going on with an investigation? why undermine the fbi? they say the cloud is hanging over the clintons. no question. that s why she doesn t want to talk about it. this is the worst good news. you can argue it s not good news at all because this has been bad for her. what i m saying why lie about it
going to be returned trifantly to washington because whatever the guy from cyber ninjas is going to say? raise your hand. now, i can see all of you through the tv screen because i am q and as q i have the power to see backwards through cameras, so i can see a few of you have your hands up right now. very few of you actually think trump and martha mcsally will be reinstated by this process of pro-trump republicans trashing voting equipment and spewing conspiracy theories. i can see you don t believe it many of you. but enough die-hard trump supporters do believe it to make this a very lucrative gig. the arizona republic reports tonight that one of the republican state senators in arizona who s been promoting the audit thing in arizona all along, he s now selling t-shirts promoting his cause. the cost of his t-shirts, it s a sliding scale by size.
