Baby critical, airlifted to hospital after Kaiaua crash

A baby was flown to hospital in a critical condition after a car crashed through a fence near Kaiaua.
Emergency services were called to East Coast Rd, near Whakatiwai, north of Kaiaua, about 9pm yesterday.
Fire and Emergency northern shift manager Colin Underdown said a vehicle had crashed through a fence, injuring two people.
Neither patient was trapped.

Four people have been winched to safety from waters east of Auckland after their boat capsized.
The three men and one woman, believed to be aged in their 20s and 30s, were in the Firth of Thames this evening when they got into trouble.
A motorist captured an Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter landing on SH1 near Pohuehue after a serious crash.
Two people have been killed in separate crashes in the North Island, which closed parts of State Highway 1 in Waikato and north of Auckland. One person died in a two-vehicle crash on SH1 at Kinleith, south of Tokoroa, at 6pm on Wednesday. A section of SH1 was closed in both directions and was expected to be for some time.

Wellington motorists should expect delays after fire on State Highway 1in Wellington. Drivers were warned to expect extensive delays and asked to avoid the area, while diversions were in place.
A person has died after a crash on State Highway 1 between Puhoi and Warkworth. Another person is reported to have suffered minor injuries, police said in a statement. Police were called to the two-car crash at Pohuehue about 5pm.
