But in an ultimate Covid pivot, organisers have created a way for Kiwis country-wide to come together, while apart, for the first-ever Ports of Auckland Round the Bays virtual fun run. Introducing. Round the Backyard! Participants will take part in an 8.4 kilometre walk, jog or run in their own neighbourhood, that must be completed in one session within a three-day window (6am on March 12 to 9pm March 14 - NZ time). A handy app that you download to your phone after signing up is all you need to take part in the event.
New Zealand’s latest Alert Level changes left fans of the country’s largest fun run disappointed when Ports of Auckland Round the Bays had to be cancelled only hours before it was due to start. But the team behind the event has created a clever way for the event to go ahead from the comfort of your own patch of paradise.
