A skipper who sparked a major search and rescue operation with a confusing Mayday call will not face any further actions, Maritime NZ says. Rescuers looking for the yacht Tribe on February 17 say the search was frustrated by a lack of yacht name and accurate location in the Mayday call.
Maritime NZ spokesman Vince Cholewa said distressing circumstances had hampered the skipper. He was under high stress, in a very noisy environment, single-handedly struggling to manage his yacht and keep his inexperienced crew member safe in heavy seas, strong wind and increasing darkness.

Four people have been winched to safety from waters east of Auckland after their boat capsized.
The three men and one woman, believed to be aged in their 20s and 30s, were in the Firth of Thames this evening when they got into trouble.

Yep in principal on the approach, not so much the spin and politics of it all , the team of 5m thing ( vomit inducing) , canonisation of certain individuals, smugness of nz in contrasting other countries without realising how much advantage we have to most other nations, releasing not so complementary reports on health sector performance very late and after the election, attempts to make this a left and right issue Apart from that on board

Red, what makes you think that there s a (general?) lack of realisation of the advantages (
e.g. remote island, delayed risk of exposure, small well-educated population, competent leaders and dedicated public health workers focussed on protecting the health of citizens) that NZ has wrt this global pandemic?
