Auckland Council has achieved 99 per cent or $119
million of the $120 million savings target it set in the
Emergency Budget, with a further $12 million in savings
achieved since February 2021.
“We are very close to
delivering on our Emergency Budget commitment to reduce
spending by $120 million and proving to Aucklanders we are
moving towards a leaner and more efficient council. Now we
must continue to focus on improving the essential services
that Aucklanders rely on.”

Auckland Mayor Phil Goff has congratulated Team New
Zealand on their victory and successful defence of the
America’s Cup.
“A victory for Team New Zealand in
front of a home crowd on Auckland’s Waitematā Harbour is
the perfect way to cap off three months of world-class
racing in our city,” Auckland Mayor Phil Goff
said.
“Team New Zealand’s America’s Cup campaign
has been thrilling to watch, with the Kiwis overcoming a
strong challenge from Luna Rossa to once again bring home
the Cup.

Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki announces the first
annual Michèle Whitecliffe Art Writing Prize today aimed at
encouraging high-quality writing about the art of Aotearoa
New Zealand.
Michèle Whitecliffe has developed the
award with the Gallery in memory of her late husband, Greg
Whitecliffe, who was passionate about writing and seeing the
arts celebrated in print.
Michèle Whitecliffe says
the award was created to encourage more critical thinking
and discourse in the New Zealand arts community.

More than 16,500 new dwellings were consented in Auckland
in 2020, with 1525 consented in December alone, making it
the strongest December on record.
Auckland Mayor Phil
Goff says the strong consenting figures are positive for
meeting housing needs and stimulating the local economy hit
hard by COVID-19.
“The 16,592 new dwellings
consented in Auckland in 2020 is a new annual record for the
city, topping the previous annual record of 15,154 set a
year earlier in 2019,” he said.
“That means we
consented 1400 more dwellings in Auckland in 2020 than were
consented in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011
combined.
“The 1525 new dwellings consented in
December is eight times higher than in the same period for
