Some local school districts are waiving certain graduation requirements such as community service this year because of the pandemic.
The Auburn School Committee voted unanimously last week to reduce the required number of community service hours from 24 to 16 for the Class of 2021 and to 20 for the Class of 2022.

One of the infected staff members works at Edward Little High School and two others work at Walton Elementary School. The district says any close contacts will be notified. All district schools are now operating in a hybrid model. In August, the Auburn School Committee considered allowing families to choose all in-person learning for their children but that option was scrapped after teachers protested, citing safety concerns. The Auburn Education Association offered no comment on the new cases.

The Auburn School Committee voted unanimously last week to reduce the required number of community service hours from 24 to 16 for the Class of 2021 and to 20 for the Class of 2022.
Six weeks ago, she had an idea.
Levesque, a pastry chef, former chair of the Auburn School Committee and married to Auburn Mayor Jason Levesque, was feeling tapped out and looking for a new way to recharge.
Sticky buns make her happy. She’s hoping it’s a universal truth.
“That’s pretty much what I was thinking to myself, it’s something that I really enjoy. Can I do a business out of it? We’ll see,” Levesque said.
She’s sold 75 six-packs already, cooking out of the Auburn Senior Center’s commercial kitchen.
Levesque graduated from the New England Culinary Institute in 2000, later working at a Boston hotel, Connecticut bed and breakfast and in a skilled nursing facility before moving back to Maine.
