It wasn’t the labor that was the most challenging part for Katie Darling when she gave birth to her daughter earlier this month at Sharp Grossmont Hospital.
It was not being able to plant a kiss on the cheek of newborn Aubrey Lynn, her third child.
The 32-year-old Imperial Beach resident and her husband, Joe, were doing their parts to maintain COVID-19 protocols at the hospital, including keeping their facemasks on throughout labor and delivery.
There were no special favors given to the Darlings, even though Joe had been vaccinated against COVID-19 in February and Katie had received the first of two Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines in April, and had tested negative for COVID-19 at the hospital.
