MOGADISHU, March 8 (Xinhua) The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) on Monday saluted the role played by female peacekeepers and local security forces in the stabilization of the Horn of African nation.
Francisco Madeira, special representative of the Chairperson of the AU Commission to Somalia and head of AMISOM also lauded the progress the Somali government has made so far in women s empowerment, the promotion of women s political participation and protecting women from gender-based violence and conflict-related sexual violence. I would like to singularly salute the brave female uniformed personnel of the Somali Security Forces and AMISOM, who selflessly are on the frontlines, fighting for the restoration of peace and security in Somalia and Africa, Madeira said in a statement issued to mark the International Women s Day.
