An Alton man will be incarcerated into his 80’s, according to Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine. 44-year-old Travis J. Varble entered a guilty plea to one count of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child. This charge is the result of an investigation that previously resulted in pleas of producing child pornography with the same 8-year-old victim.
By entering the plea, the victim is spared from having to testify in court. This plea resulted in a 34-year prison sentence to be served consecutively with a 17-year sentence for Predatory Criminal Assault of a Child and Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse charges. He is also serving a concurrent 33-year federal sentence on the child pornography charges. Truth in Sentencing requirements means he will have to serve at least 85% of this sentence.
