Fountain announced May 5, 2020, that he would not seek a second term as an Okaloosa County commissioner, hinting that health concerns had played a role in his decision. A week later he announced he would head the transition team as Madden, who won an unopposed election to succeed Bill Eddins as state attorney, prepared to take office.
He and Madden said at the time the transition team appointment was announced that there were no guarantees Fountain would be given a job once the transition was complete.
“I would never say never. I think Graham has a lot to offer,” Madden said at the time.
