WORCESTER, Mass., April 27, 2021 /PRNewswire/ The nurses of St. Vincent Hospital and Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare held the first round of negotiations since the nurses launched their strike on March 8 for a new contract that the nurses believe must include needed staffing improvements to ensure safer care for all the patients at the facility to end the strike. Unfortunately, Tenet came to the table without addressing the nurses call for safer staffing standards that the nurses had raised prior to the strike, and which had been communicated to the mediator on Friday when the negotiations were scheduled.

Nurses at Saint Vincent Hospital will meet Tenet Healthcare on Monday for the first time since the union began an open-ended strike on March 8.
The meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. as the two sides meet to further discuss negotiations including staff increases the topic the Massachusetts Nurses Association has emphasized throughout the strike.
A federal mediator scheduled the discussion on Friday, after speaking with both parties, the union said. Tenet, the Dallas-based parent company of Saint Vincent Hospital will present a proposal that the nurses hope can move the process forward to end the strike, the union said.

Christina Polcari, 54, of Belmont, pleaded guilty to three charges: one count of larceny over $1,200 from a person over 60 years old, five counts of forgery, and one count of embezzlement by fiduciary.
In the span of nine months from August 2018 to May 2019 Polcari misappropriated over $230,000 of an elderly resident’s funds, according to Attorney General Maura Healy’s office.
She spent the money on personal items including home repairs, dining out, cash withdrawals, and vacations, forging the resident s signature on promissory notes, letters and checks.

The lawsuit alleges the four entities violated the state’s Clean Air Act due to how asbestos was removed and stored from an old building.
The incident occurred in Springfield, Massachusetts, at the city’s former YMCA building. Springfield is around an hour north of Hartford, Connecticut, and a few hours west of Boston. The city’s 154,000 residents are subjected to a disproportionate amount of environmental health risks, as the city is an “environmental justice community.”
