A McLean County Board member says his party has been plotting behind closed doors for months to create new district board maps that would make it harder for Democrats to get elected.
Republican Josh Barnett of Bloomington said County Board chair John McIntyre rejected his call for a bipartisan advisory panel to help draw the maps.
“They are trying to dump Republican voters from the rural areas into Bloomington-Normal in an attempt to keep control of the County Board for the next decade,” Barnett said. “They are not being open about that. They are not being honest about it and it’s time that it stops and is brought to light.”

For the more than 40 alleged looters, the insistence by judges that defendants pay restitution to businesses and the Bloomington and Normal police departments has added massive potential debt to the long-term consequences of their misconduct.
Looters who stormed several local businesses and damaged police cars last summer are facing serious financial and legal consequences for the civil unrest, including restitution of more than $100,000, in cases resolved so far.

The deception may start with a phone call and an offer to invest funds that sounds too good to be true, or a seemingly believable plea for money to rescue a grandchild from serious trouble.
For millions of elderly people who answer those calls, the consequences can be devastating. Fraud accounts for $3 billion in losses and affects one in 10 seniors, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Financial exploitation of seniors comes in myriad forms, including telemarketing scams and theft of funds by a caregiver or family member. Investment scams, solicitations for romantic partners and contractors who take seniors’ money and run are also on the radar of law enforcement agencies.
