connecticutal role. it is part of a broader pattern of the trump administration not to seek to compromise or go through the accommodations process with congress as would normally happen, but rather stonewalling completely based on other considerations that won t hold up and won t stand the test of time. look, we had a few presidents that have interpreted presidential privilege and secrecy and things that presidents can do differently. generally there s some effort at accommodation with congress. this administration has sort of said forget that. we re not going to bother or try. we re puzzled they waited to say that gordon sondland isn t testifying. rudy giuliani comes on tv and shows people his phone, points to texts, gives people texts, talks about conversations with everybody, now says he can t testify before congress because it is an attorney client privilege issue. it is a little strange, right?
to the president of the united states, tom? it makes a huge difference because there is the attorney/client privilege issue that you have here. so you have to find a way to filter these conversations. the federal government has already said in public court filings they had a filter team set up for the e-mail communications. presumably they had a filter team set up here. you have a team that s not associated with the investigation that s listening to these calls saying, okay, this is clear attorney/client privilege, we can t share this with the prosecutors. can t share this with the investigators involved. or they could say, you know what, this has to do with potentially an ongoing conspiracy, which is one of the reasons, one of the ways you can actually get information and communications between an attorney and a client. and so in that case, they could say, you know what, this falls to the search warrant, this falls to the crimes that we think are being committed. so actually we can
