US embassy, KIU join hands to establish Lincoln Corner in Gilgit

Islamabad : The US Embassy in Islamabad signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Karakoram International University (KIU) to establish a Lincoln Corner in Gilgit.
Lincoln Corners are partnerships between the US Mission to Pakistan and eminent Pakistani institutions like universities, public libraries, and cultural centers. They connect Pakistani youth and emerging leaders to the United States through educational and thematic programs and peer-reviewed collections of information resources related to American culture, history, and international relations. Lincoln Corners events are hosted in person and online and are free and open to the public.
GILGIT: The Karakoram International University (KIU) on Friday organised a tree plantation drive and a function to mark the International Earth Day 2021.
The department of forestry, range and wildlife management in collaboration with Serena Hotel organised the function at the main campus in Gilgit to showcase actions supporting this year’s theme of the Earth Day, ‘Restore our Earth’.
Under the slogan of ‘Adopt a Tree’, the students of the university also organised a plantation drive.
Dr Zafar Khan, head of the department, welcomed the participants and said the Earth Day was the largest civic observance marked by more than a billion people in 192 countries across the world. By commemorating this event the students of KIU also showed their commitment to restoration of the planet earth and its resources, he added.
GILGIT: Speakers at a conference here on Thursday called for use of modern technology to ensure sustainable development and get benefitted from natural resources of the region.
The two-day international conference titled ‘collective action for knowledge economy with technology (DigiCAKE)’ was held at Karakoram International University.
GB Assembly Deputy Speaker Advocate Nazir Ahmed, Senior Minister Ubaidullah Baig, Finance Minister Javed Manwa, KIU Vice-chancellor Attaullah Shah, faculty members, students and experts attended the conference.
Former health minister of Norway Werner Chrisie and other experts from different countries participated in the conference through video link.
The speakers called for use of modern technology for sustainable development and getting benefits from natural resources of the region.
Lecture for budding engineers

Islamabad:The Institution of Engineers Pakistan-Rawalpindi-Islamabad Centre (IEP-RIC) has organised a technical lecture for graduate engineers on the topic of ‘Construction Claims’ to deal with project management issues.
The programme was aimed at apprising the young engineers about their managerial responsibilities and legal obligations in settling different claims and disputes, a press release issued here. The event was arranged by the center as a part of its continuing professional development program (CPD) for the young engineers.
A certified Project Management Professional Engineer Haroon Rashid, who was the guest speaker, highlighted the importance of effective management of claims and disputes in the construction work.
