have been a bunch legally today. a whole bunch. one of them is mark meadows. mark meadows, the ex chief of staff, of course, he has been subpoenaed in the criminal investigation in the county of georgia, where the da there is investigating election meddling. he basically tried to get out of it by going to the south carolina supreme court, which itself is a strange, venue wise, saying it should have to testify. they say, we have reviewed their argument raised by the appellate and find them to be manifestly without merit. basically said, sorry buddy, you have to go testify. what do you make of that? yeah, so my understanding is that he tried to press an executive privilege claim. and executive privilege, as you know, chris, is a separation of powers argument, which might have a colorful claim when you are dealing with a congressional subpoena. it s not going to carry a lot of weight in the grand jury subpoena and not one from a state, especially. i mean, i don t even see the separation
the things that rachel maddow s pointed out in a conversation we did on our podcast, which partly is about that seditious conspiracy trial back in world war ii, right? if you re trying someone for seditious conspiracy, by definition, the seditious conspiracy failed, right? because they weren t able to pull it off and now they re in handcuffs. the plot did not come to fruition. it can make it difficult to prosecute, because, you know how serious was the plot? where they just kind of talking smack, you know, behind people s backs, did they really mean this? how significant is this conviction for the department of justice, given that context? you know, i think it s really significant, chris, and i think the effect of these guilty verdicts will stiffen the spine of some and weaken the spine of others. i think it will stiff in the spine of the good, hardworking prosecutors that the department of justice. i think they may have felt like they were taking a chance on
to see a strike. but here is the bottom line. the bottom line is that the american people and workers throughout this country. are profoundly disgusted by the kind of corporate greed that we are seeing. everybody knows billionaires are getting richer, working people are struggling, corporate profits are at an all-time high and they are raising prices to make goods unaffordable for ordinary americans. that s the overall reality. and what you re seeing in the rail industry is the hole phenomena in spades. chris, in the last three quarters of this year alone, the railroad industry made 21 billion dollars in profits, provided $25 million in stock buybacks and dividends, and they are paying their ceos, in some cases, 14 million a year, 10 million a year, 20 billion a year, whatever it may be. meanwhile, for workers on the
i think that s what the court is saying. meadows though is really important because he s on this call with trump and the secretary of state of georgia to find these missing votes and i think it s important, chris, to connect the fulton county case with this conviction for seditious conspiracy because the roads, you know, conviction because those people on the ground, that conspiracy was really part of a bigger conspiracy, right? they were the muscle to carry over the finish line a lot of these other things that were happening to cast doubt on the legitimacy of the election. and this idea of georgia, you know, trying to create doubt over the votes, meadows was involved in trying to get the justice department vest to gate false allegations, you know, that there was fraud there. all of this was disinformation operation that was intended to bolster the final events on january 6th, which culminated in the violence.
