chairman has said about this last round of subpoenas. the select committee is ek soing information from individuals and organizations reportedly involved with planning the attack, with the violent mob that stormed the capitol on january 6th to overturn the results of the election. we believe the individuals and organizations we subpoenaed today have relevant information about how violence erupted at the capitol and the preparation leading up to this violent attack. so they are casting a wide net here, as i mentioned to garrett. the question is when they go this wide, are they going to be able to get enough answers? does it need to be narrower to get more specific answers in the time frame that they have? remember, with congress maybe changing hands next year, that s the expectation at least as of now. this committee doesn t have that much time to do quite a lot of work. i think you re right about the race to the to the finish and it feels silly, actually
garrett s point, been in lockstep against any efforts to improve voter access, and have been really reticent denounce the big lie or the idea that the the false narrative of election integrity is something that needs to be maintained. listen, as we sit here today, nicole, just like you said, with state legislatures continuing to pass these bills and with federal legislation stalling as the for the people act is likely not to advance and the john lewis voting rights act in real jeopardy here, you have a significant number of americans who are wondering in 2021 if and how they will have access to our democracy going forward. that is something that i think we have to think about in this moment. i am out this week with black voters matter trying to push back. because the other thing about these suppressive bills, to nick s point, yes, they
i don t think any of this is going to be easy. to garrett s point, when you get to this point in negotiation, all of the easy stuff, if there is any easy stuff in compromise these days is done. you are down to the hard stuff. if you can t get something like this done, i don t think that augers for a lot of other stuff getting done in a larger bipartisan way. i think it s going to be a big challenge much i think if you can t get this over the finish line, it might be a longer, hotter summer in washington than most people expect. the congressional office hasses to score those. we are not going to get there. let s have better tax collection. that s not a hard amount of money you can count on.
