welcome back. i m stephanie ruhle with breaking news. we re watching markets in the wake of president trump s remarks on tariffs and the economy earlier today. so far wall street looks like it s going to start the week in the green following the president s decision to suspend the threat of new tariffs on mexico. that said, this morning the president called in to cnbc to defend his use of tariffs, insisting that without them, we would be captive to other countries. listen. we lose a fortune with virtually every country. they take advantage of us in every way possible. without tariffs, we would be absolutely outside of something that i won t even mention. we would be absolutely at a competitive disadvantage, the likes of which you ve never
welcome back. you are watching msnbc. a live look at the dow. are you ready for this? now up more than 300 points. that s a huge positive. i have to give a hat tip from jim cramer to cnbc who since 3:00 a.m. this morning has been saying slow down and look at fundamentals. fundamentals, those who bought in to companies, stocks, who had very strong earnings, who the tax cuts are a huge positive for. those are wins. who got blown out in the last two days? those who are short volatility. investors who believed the good times were never going to end. well, it s happening now and it s a normalization. this is a big positive development. now we ll turn back to politics where there s bad news for republicans ahead of the 2018 midterm elections. the state of pennsylvania must
a lot of issues out there. but you also have to have a vision, i think the next president is going to have to have a-vision on how to improve the dire circumstances thate re n some cases in this country. have you got anybody that you are going to insult right off the bat or are you and cavuto going to work anybody over? no, bill. i m not planning on it because there is really no reason to mock these folks. they are running for president. that s good. what we really want to know is how they can move the country forward. that will be a refreshing change from your colleagues at&o cnbc. you used to work there somebody told me that you told them at cnbc to do all of. that is that true did you tell them to do all of that? not at all. you know that s not true. i did the last debate back at cnbc in 2012. i was very pleased with that debated. unfortunately governor perry forgot his third thing in that debate but i thought it went very smoothly. not for him but for you guys. asid
