Today in new york, chicago and los angeles, demonstrators took to the streets to protest the results of tuesdays election. In manhattan, thousands marched two miles from downtowns union square past trumps residence in trump tower on fifth avenue. Further demonstrations are planned tonight. Last night, thousands marched in new york, l. A. And other cities for a third night in a row. Protests were also staged in cities in states carried by trump, including in atlanta, dallas, raleigh, iowa
Percent of the American People did not vote and 80 percent of young people did not vote. So our job it seems to me in the next few months is to do some very obvious things. Number one, weve got to elect Hillary Clinton as the next president of the United States. [applause] number two, we have got to stay focused on the most important issue. It is not just about electing candidates. It is about transforming the country. [applause] now, the media are talking about the real issues but thats what the American People want to hear discussion about. They want us to create millions of jobs rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure. They want us to make sure that public colleges and universities in this country are tuition free. They focus on the issues yet ordinary people and young people involved in the political process, what we are in the process of doing right now is transitioning our campaign into an organization that isgoing to encourage young people to get involved in politics. Im Walter Isaacson, and im Walter Isaacson and im with the Aspen Institute here and its our pleasure at the institute to be the host and the facilitator of the franklin project. The project began when general Stan Mcchrystal was out talking about the importance of National Service two or three years ago in aspen, and everybody related to it, and one of the things we try to do here at the institute is turn thought into action, so we said, well, if this is important, lets try to create a program around it. General mcchrystal agreed to chair it. He also thought to himself, im never going to raise another idea in aspen again. You get enlisted if not drafted to do something, but i think he was able to convey to us that this works on so many levels. I mean, this is an important thing that every kid in america could have the rite of passage that previous generations had. Secondly, the notion that theres an expectation and an opportunity to be able to engage in National Service. I think both a
