herschel walker last night got 69% here. he needed more than that. he got about 67.5 back in november. this is what a republican win in sga looks like. this is brian kemp s number in the governor s race back in november. 74% of the vote won the county by almost 50 points. that s the kind of marge fn you re a republican trying to win in georgia. you re not getting it in the immediate atlanta metro area anymore. you have to go to the next level of excerpts need it in a place like cherokee county. brie be kemp won it in november. won the state easily. look how far behind kemp. one of his challenges to really drive that number up. well over 70%. he barely hit 69% in cherokee county. just one county after another sort of next tier, next level of counties outside the immediate atlanta metro area. still a lot, high populations, not quite at high, but high
herschel locker. so that was the other question, these big republican vote producing counties. we talk tonight about cherokee county, this is the biggest republican votes producing county in the state. you can see that walker wins it, he doesn t do that much better than he did in november and this is what kept me in november, this is what kemp was getting out of cherokee county. he was getting 74% of the vote. walker still couldn t even get, he barely got a 69% tonight, he needed to be in the 70s in cherokee county. he needed bigger numbers and the big republican counties that are just outside of the atlanta metro area. so he had some good numbers and the rural areas, but the bottom line is in the big republican counties he didn t improve enough, and then the core democratic areas he did not contain warnock s strength, and warnock wins the race. not enough offense and not enough defense. i think we can go live right now to herschel walker s campaign headquarters where he is speaking.
finish, it looks, like above where he finished in november. if you place where he finished in this was a huge one for him. gwinnett county, one of the biggest growing counties in the state, again, right outside of atlanta, he finished just under 59% in november tonight, he is just over 62%. this was a great number for warnock back in november, this was an even better number for him tonight. so, in these core democratic areas, he didn t just to the numbers he needed, he exceeded them. so this was one problem for walker right away, he needed warnock to underperform the core atlanta metro area, that didn t happen. the other thing that walker was counting on was again, if you look back at that november general election, in georgia if you took the senate race out of it, it was a good night for republicans in georgia back in november. brian kemp got reelected, brad raffensperger got reelected, they won statewide elections. the one who is lagging behind all the other republicans was herschel
improves on it tonight, again, a few more votes to come in fulton county. we expect that they will be warnock friendly. they may not be quite 76.5% but he will finish, it looks, like above where he finished in november. if you place where he finished in november. this was a huge win for him. one of the biggest growing counties in the state, again, right outside of atlanta, he finished just under 59% in november tonight, he is just over 62%. this was a great number for warnock back in november, this was an even better number for him tonight. to win these core democratic areas, he didn t just to the numbers he needed, he exceeded them. so this was one problem for walker right away, he needed warnock to underperform the core atlanta metro area, that didn t happen. the other thing that walker was counting on was again, if you look back at that november general election, in georgia if you took the senate race out of it, it was a good night for republicans in georgia back in november. brian
points. how did he do it? he squeezed more votes, more support out of the core democratic area which is the immediate atlanta metro area. warnock getting 62% of the vote in gwinnett county. this county has been zipping from republican to democrat. it voted in the 2004 election for george w. bush by well over 25 points. now it s a core democratic county. warnock got 62% there last night in november. he got about 59%. so he increased he improved his performance in a major vote-producing democratic county. that was part of the story we saw throughout this atlanta metro area here. warnock exceeding his november totals. the other part of the story and the other place where walker fell short is when you get outside the metro area here to more of these sort of fringe atlanta metro counties here, a
