now are blocking the intersection because they are hoping to stop delegations from actually reaching the summit. sews what protestors- you can see how powerful the water is just by the way people are reacting. you see it s the way pushing against them there. this is a pretty powerful jet of water coming out of the water cannons. but it s not removing the protestors george. atika it was a few minutes ago we spoke and you know the the image that we saw, it seems more peaceful what happened between now and then to prompt this type of reaction? because again what we saw a few moments ago very different than this? was there an acute response from the protestors? what prompted this? i think it s been peaceful for a while. i think it will continue to be. what s happening though is that police are saying listen at some point this protest has to wrap up if you re not going to move we re going to find a way to move you.
remove them. this is what s happening at the moment. one which one they are taking protestors out of the scene, removing from in intersection. and this is exactly what police warned they were doing earlier. it s going to take some time i think. but it does seem they are able they are slowly clearing out this protest. atika, i want to ask you how long have the protestors been sit tlg? how long did police wait to try to break them up before having to physically remove them now? reporter: they ve been here at least more than an hour. maybe even two hours we ve been here. and it s it started peaceably at the beginning, a bit of a cat and mouse game running through the streets. police intercepted them at one point. split the group in half and arrested a number of them. then they took over the intersection. people were singing songs for
both police and protestors have been preparing for in day for some time george. atika, if you could put the protest here the protests we ve seen into context compared to other protests around in event? one of the bigger protest attention that you ve seen? s. in fact as you can see there is less than a hundred people about so it s smaller that s the objective to get small err groups across the city. become a cat and mouse game between police and protestors today. protests like this are very common in things like the g20 summit or a lot of the g 7, the smaller group gatherings of nations. and so while protests like this aren t unusual, hamburg special security concern. because it has a long history of protests, very aggressive leftist protests as well. so it was always a challenge to get so many controversial world leaders in one place here at the g20 summit when you have determined protestors like this
example. they did receive two warnings or they would be forcibly removed. that s what s happening now. let s get a better look. you can see a little bit more here. this is exactliway what s happening here. as you can see police trying to grab protestors, pull them out. what a lot of protestors are do is linking arms to prevent them from being taken up. they re trying to nonkplienltly but insisting that they are going to stay here. this is all part of the tactics of civil disobedience. watch out a water cannon coming this which we might get wet. police are quite quickly managing to extract people and managing to forcibly remove them. atika on the scene just update our viewers comparing what we re seeing right there so
