Factions allied to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Kilifi s Amason Kingi have failed to agree on whether they should form a Coast political party, remain in ODM or seek new alliances ahead of 2022 polls.
In a closed-door meeting held in Nyali on Monday, the two leaders, however, agreed on the need to ring-fence the political turf and end hostility between different factions in the region.
To that end, the second meeting of all the six governors in the Coast has been scheduled for February 9 in Voi, followed by another of all elected leaders on February 20.

More than 20 elected leaders from the Coast region yesterday gathered at a private location in Nyali, Mombasa, amid the growing clamour for a local political party.
Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho (pictured) and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi led the leaders in the closed-door forum, which was skipped by Deputy President William Ruto’s allies.
Joho has announced plans to seek the presidency through ODM while Kingi has declared intention to unveil a political party for Coast by June.
But Ruto’s allies dismissed the meeting, saying it had failed the test of uniting the residents.

Mombasa Governor Hassan Jdismissed calls by Coast leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto to form a new political party in the region, saying it will flop.
In a statement sent to media houses on Sunday, ODM Deputy Party leader described those behind the move as political rejects and fraudulent leaders being used by Ruto to divide the region for his political gains.
“The people behind this push are selfish leaders and those rejected in the previous elections who have essentially sold their souls to Ruto and joined his campaign of fraud and lies that all sensible Kenyans know is doomed to fail,” read the statement.
