off the areas. in many indicates, it can involve the shutdown of athletic fields, ice skating rinks and community centers which means no summer camps or senior citizen activities which park advocates say will deny them of re-creating. in new york 41 state parks and 14 historical sites are in danger of shutting down. in california they are looking to close more than 200 parks. many states are hiking fees for camping and parking and eliminating fireworks for the 4th of july. here at rich banks they are looking to cut down the hours. this park serves two million a year. we re hearing that it s possible that the swimming pool could close here. what is that going to mean for you this summer? that is going to be bed. that is one thing the children live for. it s local. they don t have money to spend. the beach is too far for a lot
fewer students and less tax revenue. such is the case for a suburban dallas school district, jonathan betts with affiliate wfaa shows us. reporter: workers rush to finish a school that for now will largely sit empty. the money is there to build it, but not to fully open it. this $40 million campus was supposed to be a 1200-student middle school. i understood the financial situation that the district was in. reporter: so instead the new superintendent is re-using it, turning part of the building into a career and technology education center for high school students. the large kitchen, for one, will now be used for cooking classes. the art rooms, transformed for cosmetology courses. like the plumbing and everything is already in place. it was already in place for art. the entire second floor of classroom, the gym, athletic fields and even the cafeteria will largely sit empty for now. that s why we ve had to make some hard choices this spring
rebuild home and schools and athletic fields in the area. the quarterback credits the people of this great city with giving his team the strength to do things no other saints team has ever done. go to the super bowl, and win it. in so many ways new orleans has bounced back after the costliest natural disaster in american history. the people here are very proud of the florida lay and proud of this city. but standing here on bourbon street in the shadow of the superdome it may be difficult for people to overlook the shadows of what lower ninth ward, that s the neighborhood where the flood water rose up to 10, even 12 feet in the days of a hurricane katrina, destroying block after block after block of homes and forcing folks up up on their roof tops to wait for rescue. since that disaster, the natural one and man made one that follows, one out of every five people who left the ninth ward has rushed. one out of five. jonathan hunt is live in that
