“Wherever and whenever” is what Nebraska football coach Scott Frost said ahead of the 2020 football season, even saying his team would line up in Uzbekistan if needed.
But maybe not
really wherever and whenever. According to a Friday morning report from Stadium’s Brett McMurphy, the Huskers are trying to back out of one of the most anticipated games this fall.
“Nebraska is trying to get out of playing Oklahoma on Sept. 18, sources told @Stadium,” McMurphy said in a tweet. “The Cornhuskers have contacted other schools to play in Lincoln on that date, sources said. The game was scheduled to mark 50th anniversary of 1971 “Game of the Century” b/w No. 1 NU & No. 2 OU”.
The 2021 season-opening game scheduled for Dublin, Ireland, is coming back to the states.
A release from the Nebraska Athletic Department says the game has been moved after “extensive consultation with the Irish government, medical authorities, and the administrative staffs at Nebraska and Illinois”. The August 28 game will now be played in Chapaign at Illinois’ Memorial Stadium.
“We are disappointed that we will not be able to travel to Ireland to open the 2021 football season in Dublin,” Nebraska Athletic Director Bill Moos said. “The trip would have been a memorable experience for the young men in our football program, so I feel badly they won’t have this opportunity.

In what has been a developing story for the last few weeks, the Aer Lingus Classic vs. Illinois in Dublin, Ireland will not happen.
The Week Zero game set for Aug. 28 was officially moved to Champaign on Wednesday, as all parties involved agreed it was the right moved to make after extensive consultation with the Irish government, medical authorities and the administrative staffs at both schools.
“We are disappointed that we will not be able to travel to Ireland to open the 2021 football season in Dublin,” Nebraska Athletic Director Bill Moos said in a statement. “The trip would have been a memorable experience for the young men in our football program, so I feel badly they won’t have this opportunity.

Ever since he took over as head coach, Nebraska fans have been waiting for the football program to take the next step under Scott Frost.
Unfortunately, that step forward did not happen in 2020. After entering the 2020 season with plenty of hype, the Huskers completed a 3-5 season.
Despite the poor record, Nebraska athletic director Bill Moos decided to remain positive.
LINCOLN â To help undefeated Ohio State play for the league championship, the Big Ten voted Wednesday to back away from one of the rules it set for the 2020 season, and Nebraska endorsed the change.
It s not the rule that most frustrated NU administration and fans just before Halloween â one that prevents schools from pursuing nonconference matchups when conference foes cancel due to COVID-19 â but a different stipulation that required league teams to play six games to qualify for the Dec. 19 Big Ten championship.
The Buckeyes have played five games. They won t get to play a sixth this weekend because Michigan canceled the rivalry game due to a rise in COVID cases on its team. So Ohio State needed either an opponent or an exception to the six-game rule.
