Josiah Bellar, charged with rape, pleads not guilty

Athens Voice 6-9-21

“In the June 2 installment of The Athens NEWS, a writer was concerned about the integrity of Robin Webb: you needn’t worry. It takes a cynicism-naiveté combo not to see, when an agency’s public information officer calls press back to clarify that something was THEIR fault, that person has made a sacrifice regardless of who’s to blame. When tragic, avoidable issues occur, it is all too easy to point our fingers at dedicated caseworkers, advocates, and other staff — predominantly women — while ignoring actual problems (low rates of prosecution for sexual violence, law enforcement corruption, trafficking, etc) that are perpetrated and perpetuated by systems governed by men.”

Bellar Case Raises Questions About Possible Systematic Failure

Deputy Accused Of Obstructing Justice In Sexual Abuse Case Makes First Court Appearance

Sheriff s deputy charged in connection to sexual abuse case

View Comments An Athens County sheriff s deputy was arrested on Friday in connection to a sexual abuse case involving the family of a previously missing teen, prosecutors said.  Jimmy Childs, 52, is facing felony charges of tampering with evidence and obstruction of justice, according to a release from the Athens County Prosecutor s Office.  The alleged incidents occurred between May 18 and May 21, following last week s indictments of Robert, Deborah, Jonathan and Josiah Bellar on charges related to ongoing sexual abuse of children in the household, officials said.  Childs is accused of deleting a record of a phone call with Robert Bellar during the execution of a search warrant, not informing any supervisor of the telephone call until after his phone was seized, deleting Robert Bellar’s contact from his phone and making a false statement during the investigation, the release states.
