david: now, it is true that some sheriffs in north carolina opposed this bill and they had an influence on the governor because they were worried about getting penalized by the federal government for not helping enough, what would you say to them? i would say that ice has a number of programs that can limit the liability that sheriffs perceive to have in this instance, knives the border patrol for 33 years, we used to give detainers across the hood of a car to deputy sheriff and never had once a problem with taking people into custody after they went through the criminal justice system. we need to get back to that, now the state can help, right, if the governor if they override this veto, the state can help these sheriffs and also the legislature, the federal legislature, congress can help here by using detainers or allowing the law to cover detainers and remove the liability from these jurisdictions that they perceive, i don t think it s actual, the congress could help here as wel
and work on this in that way? so, i mean, there s two issues. mexico has its own asylum procedures. and the u.s. has its procedures where many individuals are being required to wait in mexico. mexican asylum procedures however are very, very deficient. very small numbers actually win asylum in mexico. they re completely understaffed. there s very few asylum officers in mexico. and the grant rates are also extremely low. and most individuals are coming through mexico to get to the united states to apply for asylum, rather than apply in mexico. so, that s one area. the other area, another front, is topping people in the first place from getting to the u.s., so mexico is sending troops to its southern border to try and curtail the massive migrant flow we re seeing from central america. is this a tenable solution? we don t believe it is.

anywhere in the united states. paul: but look, they have to send mary, i think you would agree with this but let me know anre incentive you can t y come on in, everybody has a right to come in. you don t want to send a message to people to go to the border and think they can get asylum if their chances are really, really low. f i agree. as i said, the asylum procedures right now cannot handle this volume of people. but i think as we ve talked about over the years, the problem is that we don t have an immigration system whereby people can apply and get green cards and a reasonable period of time, we need labor. we need children. we don t make them anymore. block on his attempted change, to asylum procedures is not a member of the 9th circuit. this judge is a district court judge in california, one level below the 9th circuit court of appeals. trump is correct when he says the 9th circuit has the most number of cases overturned between the supreme court. it does not. and further this decision, it was not a final decision. he issued just a temporary retraining order. he s not going to get to hearing the merits of the case and whether or not the asylum order should be blocked permanently until december 19th. you can view it to a certain extent that trump is jumping the gun in terms of response to this judge, but it does speak to its continuing pattern of attacking the independent judiciary, aside from judge coryell. president trump has referred to john roberts as a total disaster and said immigration judges are totally corrupt, so this has not been the first time we have seen this type of attack, and unfortunately, probably not the last eit
