NEW BREMEN – A 30 minute discussion during the New Bremen Council meeting Monday night resulted in little progress on signage for the Lockkeeper’s House. But definite answers came about the major leaks at the pool.
Members of the local historical society are seeking to post a sign on the historical recreation of the building that housed the lockkeeper and his family along the banks of the Miami Erie Canal in downtown New Bremen.
Mayor Bob Parker said it was his understanding the building was never meant to be signed, since it would detract from the historical design. Former Council member John Schwartz agreed, saying a sign was not appropriate on the building itself. NEW BREMEN – The bill to repair the municipal pool is in, and at Monday night’s New Bremen Council meeting, the members decided how to proceed.
Village Administrator Brent Richter said Astro Pools had estimated that the cost to repair the multiple leaks at the municipal pool would be $98,000. Council agreed to put out requests this week for other bids to repair the pool. If no better bids are offered, Council agreed to proceed with the repair work with Astro.

Inspection of the pool revealed that several pipes leading to and from the pool had developed leaks that allowed the water to escape all season. Richter said the pool, which was built in the late 1990’s, had schedule 40 pipe, which was the standard at the time. Current standards require the use of schedule 80 piping. Work will involve the replacement of all

NEW BREMEN – Definite answers to the leaking municipal pool were answered at Monday night’s New Bremen Council meeting. Also, Don Kuck relinquished his role as Council president.
After a thorough inspection of the pool by contractor Astro Pools last week, Village Administrator Brent Richter reported that six of the nine lines around and under the municipal pool had leaks. The blame was placed on the use of schedule 40 pipe when the pool was built in the late 1990’s, which was the standard at that time. Richter said options were either to find and patch the current leaks or to completely replace the current piping with the industry standard of Schedule 80 pipe, which would ensure that no more leaks would occur in the future.
