Kanji became a desperate source of sustenance during the violent 26-year Sri Lankan Civil War. Today, the dish evokes painful memories for the country’s Tamil ethnic minority. It also acts as a powerful symbol of protest.
“Walk for Justice for Tamils” took place from Pothuvil to Polikandy (P2P) in Sri Lanka from Feb. 3 rd to Feb. 7 th 2021. Tens of thousands of Tamils joined.
