PASIG CITY, May 23 Highlighting the spirit of Bayanihan and the dedication to ensure learning continuity, the Department of Education (DepEd) TV bagged the Grand Prize for Outstanding Thematic Presentation in the recently concluded SIGNIS Asia TV Conference held in South Korea.
Titled Bridging over the Pandemic, the entry of DepEd TV was praised by the juries for demonstrating that educational content can be informative and entertaining for learners, parents, and teachers at the same time.
“The entire DepEd family is truly proud of the DepEd TV team for their relentless dedication and innovative efforts to support our learners. This award is the latest testament of the hard work they put in pursuit of learning continuity. We will continue to improve this initiative while exploring more platforms that can transform education and make it accessible for all,” Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones shared.

Undersecretary for Administration Alain Del Pascua, in a statement issued Monday, May 10, said that these initiatives are part of DepEd’s preparation for the PEN where “we will connect all schools, all DepEd offices through various technologies.”
During the EduAksyon sa Norte virtual visit in April, DepEd turned over 2,972 smartphones and 82 laptops to selected learners and teachers from Regions 1, 2, 3, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
The said donation, DepEd said, was conducted to help the learners, especially the student-leaders, to facilitate and actualize academic and co-curricular activities and student-oriented projects and initiatives online.
The Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS) also conducted a training workshop for the teachers and ICT coordinators on the e-book development using Kotobee and AppsGeyser.

In order to realize the establishment of the Public Education Network (PEN) in the country, the Department of Education (DepEd) has partnered with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to respond to the challenges in the education landscape.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones confirmed this during the briefing of Palace Spokesman Harry Roque on Monday, April 19. With the shift into distance learning amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, underscored the “need to use technology” for learning continuity and education.
Last week, DepEd led by Briones and DICT led by Secretary Gregorio Honasan II also signed two important Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to strengthen the delivery of education through broadcast, connectivity, and digital security via the PEN program.
