Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysuru Division of
South Western Railway (SWR) celebrated International Women’s Day in a novel way by running an all-women crew of a train yesterday.
The authorities decided to run Train No 06535 Mysuru-Solapur Golgumbaz Express with all-women crew, comprising loco pilot and assistant loco pilot, guard, ticket checking staff and security personnel. Through this they wanted to stress railway’s commitment to create a gender equal workforce to achieve all-round development of organisation.
Divisional Railway Manager of SWR Mysuru, Rahul Agarwal, President of South Western Railway Women Welfare Organisation (SWRWWO) Pooja Agarwal and other members of SWRWWO flagged off the train.
Central Railway celebrates International Womenâs Day
Central Railway celebrated International Womenâs Day with various activities on March 8, 2021.
Sanjeev Mittal, General Manager, Central Railway presented sewing machines to female dependent wards of employees, bicycles to Railway School, Bhusaval for imparting cycling training to female students and certificates to Women Railway Employees who had completed computer courses and Light Motor Vehicle driving courses at a function organised under the aegis of Staff Benefit Fund & Rail Parivar Dekh-Rekh Muhim at CSMT auditorium, Mumbai. The General Manager also gave away awards to deserving women employees. The women employees shared their experiences with the audience.

BENGALURU: The numerous colourful rangolis on Platform 8 of the Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna (Bengaluru City) railway station made a statement to all passengers on Monday - a young girl flying high, a lady in a happy frame of mind, a train flagged off by women guards with the letters below in bold SWR International Women s Day . The Basava Express which chugged into the platform from Bagalkot decorated with garlands, flowers and plantain stems had a banner in front of the engine proclaiming Empowering Women in Indian Railways .
The train stopped over at KSR station at 10.40 pm to change its diesel engine into an electric loco and the crew too were changed. 20 women comprising a Loco Pilot (LP), an Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP), seven Travelling Ticket Examiners, Railway Protection Force and staff of the Carriage and Works department got on board. Railway staff offered roses to all passengers on board.

Indian Railways has introduced a goods train that is operated by an all-female crew. The train service started between Vasai Road in Maharastra to Vadodara in Gujarat on January 5.
The train is helmed by Kumkum Suraj Dongre- the Loco Pilot, along with Udita Verma- the Assistant Loco Pilot and Akansha Rai - the Goods Guard, as per a statement by the Western Railway zone.
