More than 100 people gathered just yards from where Desmon Ray Jr. was fatally shot by Birmingham police on Easter Sunday, remembering better times with the 28-year-old father of six and demanding answers in his death.
“It’s a very unfortunate reality that another mother, another father, have to bury their child with no explanation as to why,’ said Eric Hall, co-founder of Birmingham’s Black Lives Matter.
“It’s a very unfortunate reality. It’s one that we have endured far too many times. We’re calling for answers.”
Po Po Po! Birmingham police toss toys to kids during west side sleigh ride

Birmingham police officers paraded through the city’s west side in their Christmas sleigh, passing out toys to children who were beyond excited to see Santa and his elves in blue.
It was the second year of the goodwill mission, and one the department hopes to continue. It was a joint effort between the department and other community partners, including Kiss FM whose program director, Darryl Johnson, donned the big red suit and white beard for the occasion.
Last year, the tour took police through several public housing communities, mostly east of downtown. On Tuesday, the caravan focused on neighborhoods in the city’s west side. Lights and sirens heralded their arrival and everywhere they went, young and old alike waved and shouted their thanks and holiday greetings.
