Spotlighting the root causes and intersections of human trafficking, the Shine the Light virtual conference demonstrated the range of people and concrete actions needed to combat trafficking effectively.
The March 8-9 webinar, for which more than 450 people registered, included a variety of voices: survivors with moving testimonies; sisters experienced in helping victims create new lives; experts who can speak to the unseen complexities exacerbating the problem; legislators who pass bills to curb the causes; and religious organizations and volunteers who raise awareness by localizing the issue. “In commemoration of the 500 Years of the Arrival of Christianity in the Archdiocese of Cebu, His Holiness Pope Francis, through a Decree from the Apostolic Penitentiary, has graciously granted the request presented by His Excellency the Most Reverend Jose S. Palma, Archbishop of Cebu, to declare within the Archdiocese a Special Jubilee Year, along with the attached plenary indulgence,” the Archdiocese of Cebu announced on Monday, March 1.
“The same Authority has likewise conceded the Archbishop of Cebu the faculty to impart to the Christian faithful participating the yearlong jubilee celebration, which will start from April 4, 2021 to April 22, 2022, the Apostolic Blessing of His Holiness,” said the archdiocese.

File photo March 02, 2021 THE Archdiocese of Cebu is set to open its Holy Doors in various parishes to commemorate the 500th year of the arrival of Christianity in the country.
In a statement, church officials said they will kick off the activities on April 4, 2021 with a solemn liturgical rite of opening the Holy Door of the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral.
Similar celebrations will also be observed in eight other churches, including the oldest and farthest parishes of the Archdiocese Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Bantayan town, Bantayan Island in northern Cebu; Nuestra Señora del Patrocinio de Maria Parish in Boljoon, San Guillermo de Aquitania Parish in Dalaguete, St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Argao, St. Catherine de Alexandria Parish in Carcar City and St. Anne Parish in Barili in the southern Cebu; San Nicolas Parish in Cebu City; and National Shrine of St. Joseph Parish in Mandaue City.
