Local schools name top teachers of year

While Houston ISD recently recognized 12 finalists as candidates to be named its 2020-21 elementary and secondary teachers of the year, local schools also named their Teachers of the Year this spring. The Leader solicited responses from the top teachers at area schools. Additional responses will be featured in a later issue. Minh-Nhat (Daniel) Duong Minh-Nhat (Daniel) Duong, math Duong said he was honored to receive the Teacher of the Year award. “It shows that dedication is recognized, not just from me, but every teacher,” he said. “Under such unprecedented times, a single teacher such as myself cannot achieve success alone, but through the help and collaboration of my colleagues. I am appreciative and proud to accept the award on the behalf of all educators.”

Start Date: ASAP Under the supervision of the WSC Development Team Lead, the Assessment Specialist will support the development of an “IPC-style” system for classifying the severity of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) conditions – the WASH Severity Classification (WSC). The Assessment Specialist will co-lead the implementation sub-team of the WSC Development Team, in partnership with a second Assessment Specialist. The role will also include supporting the wider WSC Development team of Assessment, Data, WASH, Public Health, and IPC Specialists on the research and development aspects of the WSC, by providing inputs for the analytical tools and protocols used to classify the severity of WASH needs.

Two-year-old Zoe is described by those who love her as a bright, energetic and free-spirited child. She was diagnosed with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy at 6 months old and she’s unable to sit, stand, walk, or talk. Zoe will receive a special surround for her stroller-type wheelchair with a surprise theme that will highlight her favorite things. It is handmade by Kings Point Woodshop, Little Wolf Carpentry and Chariots of Love, Home Depot, and designed to accommodate Zoe’s unique disabilities.
