Orange County DA Says He’s Mulling Death Penalty for Suspected Shooter
The chief suspect in a mass Orange, Calif. shooting could face the death penalty if convicted, and Orange County’s district attorney said he’s pursuing the option.
“With respect to the situation in Orange, I’m the only person in this county that makes the ultimate decision about whether we’re going to charge somebody with death,” Todd Spitzer said during an April 6 virtual town hall. “That is an immense responsibility, and I’m required under the law, and morally to look at the entire situation.”
On March 31 about 5:30 p.m., a man locked the gates leading to an office building at 202 W. Lincoln Avenue in Orange before opening fire inside a Unified Homes office, police said.

FULLERTON, CA It s almost Valentine s Day, and Disneyland should be dressed up with hearts and flowers. Instead, the Main Gates remain locked, as they do at Magic Mountain, Universal, and other theme parks across the state. Nearly one year after the pandemic began, Chair and Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva and Vice-Chair and Joint Author Assemblywoman Suzette Martinez-Valladares of Santa Clarita think that they have an answer.

A new bill proposed by California state assembly members would speed the reopening of Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood and override Gov. Gavin Newsom’s guidelines that have kept large California theme parks closed for more than 10 months.
Under Newsom’s current reopening framework, large theme parks aren’t allowed to open until the county they’re located in reaches the least restrictive fourth tier, or yellow tier. But smaller theme parks with a capacity of less than 15,000 can reopen in the third/orange tier.
According to a press release from Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva, the new measure, AB 420, calls on the governor to allow large theme parks to reopen alongside the smaller ones in the orange tier, which is one step ahead of the yellow tier.
