Ferrets may find friends in La Mesa

Reporting from East County  They’re still not legal in California, but ferrets have found a potential friend in La Mesa. The City Council on Tuesday unanimously agreed to consider a proclamation declaring La Mesa a “ferret-friendly city.” As a part of a plan to undo what she considers a “ridiculous” ban on the animals, City Councilwoman Kristine Alessio has pledged to reach out to local legislators to ask for help to allow Californians to keep the animal as a pet. Councilman Bill Baber also said he would push for a change in state law. Advertisement A subcommittee on the issue is looking into a proclamation by the city to officially deem La Mesa “ferret friendly,” which would cement the city’s statement on the animal being unfairly banned.

Caltrans announces 41-space parallel parking plan for downtown Ramona

Print Caltrans is seeking feedback from residents on a project that would add a total of 41 parallel parking spaces on both sides of Main Street in downtown Ramona. The plan, presented at the May 6 Ramona Community Planning Group meeting, comes as Ramona residents and community leaders have been looking at ways to make Old Town safer for pedestrians and more accessible as restaurants, businesses and other venues begin opening up as COVID-19 restrictions loosen. Erwin Gojuangco, Caltrans District Division Chief Traffic Operations, said the agency is proposing a state Route 78 Ramona Parking Project, which can be seen on the Caltrans website at https://dot.ca.gov/caltrans-near-me/district-11/current-projects/ramona parking.
