STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Andrew Yang, a former Democratic presidential candidate and current frontrunner in the race for NYC mayor, came to the rescue of a photojournalist who was attacked Friday on the Staten Island Ferry.
Yang was traveling on the 11 a.m. boat from Manhattan to Staten Island for a tour of the borough, accompanied by his press staff and a few members of the media, including Getty photographer Spencer Platt.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Lifelong Staten Islander Mark Murphy has thrown his hat into the ring for borough president, joining a growing list of candidates vying for a place on the ballot this fall in the contest to replace outgoing Borough President James Oddo.
“I know what Staten Island was and I know what Staten Island can be,” Murphy told the Advance/SILive.com about his candidacy. “I’m committed to this.”
The West Brighton resident, husband, and father of three, said his main reason for jumping into the race is because of the running joke that Staten Island is the “forgotten borough.”

(TNS) As we enter 2021, the five-year fight to extend the HOV lane on the Staten Island Expressway (SIE) wages on, now with an exorbitant price tag hovering over the proposed project.
Since 2017, Councilman Steven Matteo ( R-Mid-Island) has petitioned Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) to extend the borough s HOV lane to span the entire length of the Staten Island Expressway, from the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge to the Goethals Bridge.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. One of the lawyers representing Mac’s Public House in Grant City in its standoff with officials over coronavirus restrictions slammed the Sheriff’s Office as “a force of ill-trained, undisciplined and inexperienced officers” that is the “antithesis of the NYPD.”
“The current situation with the New York City Sheriff is extremely dangerous for both the Sheriff officers and the public,” criminal defense lawyer Mark Fonte wrote in a letter to the Advance/SILive.com. “The Sheriff’s Office should be led by a professional from the NYPD. Allow the NYPD to institute a training program for the Sheriff’s department.”

A team of community spirited activists representing a broad array of Staten Island’s diverse community gathered to pack 1,000 dairy boxes for a Pre-Hanukkah Dairy Food Distribution at the Belzer Synagogue in Meiers Corners.
Cheese, blintzes, butter, and ice cream were just a few of the delectable, edible delights comprising the amazing assortment of dairy foods found in the food packages.
