Vjetrenica Cave declared Protected Landscape March 1, 2021 9:45 AM by Y.Z
The Assembly of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNC) adopted the Bill on declaring the area of the Vjetrenica cave with a part of Popovo polje a protected landscape “Vjetrenica-Popovo polje”.
The Assembly pointed out that Vjetrenica is a complex cave system and the longest cave in
BiH, and is a hydrologically active speleological object with active underground water flows and underground lakes, and therefore needs to be adequately protected, said the Government of HNC.
Vjetrenica is the most famous and one of the most beautiful caves in Bosnia and Herzegovina, located in the Municipality of Ravno, in the very south of Herzegovina. The vicinity of Dubrovnik and the Adriatic Sea and the richness of cave decorations make it the main tourist destination of this part of the country.
