Assam: 12 COVID-19 Patients Die In Guwahati Hospital In Last 24 Hours

Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta had visited Gauhati Medical College and Hospital late last night. Guwahati: Twelve COVID-19 patients have died at the state-run Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) during the last 24 hours amidst allegations of doctors on duty being not present at night. Out of the 12 patients, nine were admitted to the ICU and three in the ward and the oxygen saturation level of all the patients who died were below 90 per cent, GMCH Superintendent Abhijit Sarma said on Tuesday. The other COVID patients and the family members of those who died have alleged that doctors on night duty are not usually present.

200 More ICU Beds in GMCH to Be Ready by Mid-June: Assam Health Minister

GMCH will be slowly opened for general patients: Health Minister STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said that an additional 200 ICU (Intensive Care Unit) beds are under construction at the parking area of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) would be ready by mid-June. Talking to The Sentinel, the Health Minister said, Once these additional 200 ICU beds are ready, we will have more facilities at the GMCH to treat COVID-19 patients. After the installation of the 200 additional ICU beds in the GMCH parking area, the main hospital in the GMCH will be slowly opened for general patients (other than COVID-19 patients). Referring to the COVID-19 situation in the state, the Minister said that in the past few days there has been a slight improvement in the situation.

Representational image. | PTI Two men allegedly raped a woman in Assam’s Charaideo district when she was on her way home from a hospital, where her family was being treated for Covid-19, reported NDTV on Monday. The woman, who belongs to the tea tribe community, was returning along with her daughter as both of them were discharged after testing negative for Covid-19. There are discrepancies about the exact date of the incident as India Today reported it occurred on May 29 evening, and according to NDTV, the crime happened on May 27. “Few days ago, our family tested positive for Covid-19 and we are under home isolation for one week,” the daughter said. “After my father and mother’s health worsened, we were admitted to a hospital. When we tested negative, the hospital authority asked us to go home. We asked for an ambulance to return home, but they denied it. We were discharged from the hospital at 2.30 pm.”
