After learning her first chords on her uncleâs guitar as a young girl, local artist Aspen Countryman knew she was destined to be a songwriter.
A University of Georgia senior majoring in advertising and pursuing a music business certificate, Countryman has made her mark on the Athens music scene as an indie pop artist. After debuting a string of singles this year, Countryman released a full EP on April 11 and will host a release party at Eddieâs Attic on April 26.
The EP was about a year in the making, but Countrymanâs love for music has been around for much longer.
With the recent release of The New York Times-produced documentary, âFraming Britney Spears,â and Phoebe Bridgers facing backlash over her Saturday Night Live guitar smash, women continue to face highs and lows in the music industry. And for Athens artists Lane Marie and Aspen Anonda, this is no exception.
Lane Marie OâKelley, who goes by the stage name Lane Marie, is a University of Georgia alumna who graduated in 2017. And other local female artist, Aspen Countryman, or known on stage as Aspen Anonda, is a UGA senior studying advertising and music business.
Two artists who describe their sound as a blend of indie and pop, both OâKelley and Countryman have found their niche within the Athens music scene.
