In his 2005 hit
Gold Digger, Kayne West rapped about the virtues of prenuptial agreements.
‘Holla, “We want a prenup! We want a prenup!” (Yeah!) / It’s somethin’ that you need to have / ‘Cause when she leaves yo’ ass, she gon’ leave with half,’ were the exact lyrics – a line that’s suddenly become strikingly resonant, given news of an impending split between the rapper and his wife, Kim Kardashian.
According to Grace Lawrence, an associate at Family Law in Partnership (FLiP): ‘There has been a material increase in the demand for – and the English Court’s recognition of – prenups’. And the increase can almost be directly attributed to the landmark Supreme Court ruling in 2010, a decade ago, at the epic Radmacher vs. Granatino divorce battle.
