Apple Already Blocking Downgrades to iOS 14.5 May 11, 2021 18:00 GMT
iOS 14.5.1 comes with important security improvements
Apple has released iOS 14.5.1 last week with important security fixes, and the company has moved pretty quickly this time, now blocking the downgrades to iOS 14.5 on all its devices.
In other words, if you have already installed iOS 14.5.1 on your iPhone, you can no longer go back to iOS 14.5 because the company no longer signs this version of the operating system.
This makes total sense anyway, as iOS 14.5.1 comes with important security improvements, including for vulnerabilities believed to be exploited in the wild.
New features in iOS 14.5
An analytics firm reported that a very small number of Apple mobile device users have agreed to allow apps to track them. The information comes two weeks after the widely anticipated and debated iOS 14.5 feature App Tracking Transparency was launched.
Most of iOS 14.5 reportedly opted out of app tracking
The full version of iOS 14.5 went live in late April with a slew of new features and updates for iPhone and iPad (iPadOS 14.5) users. However, it can be said that the implementation of the new App Tracking Transparency policy was one of the most anticipated among users.
Verizon Media’s Flurry Analytics now reports that only 13 percent of global mobile users have agreed to opt-in to app tracking since iOS 14.5 was released to the public. In the United States, only 5 percent of users have allowed apps to track them. Based on the graphs provided, these data come from a sample size of 5.3 million “daily mobile active users” with devices running on iOS 14.5.

Flurry Analytics - a company owned by US telco Verizon, which monitors app usage on 1 million phones, says that so far only 5 per cent of US users and 13 per cent worldwide have opted-in to tracking since April 25.

App Tracking Transparency finally made its way to iPhone via last week’s iOS 14.5 update. Apple finally enforced the feature on to the developers, which limits them from showing targeted ads to the user. A new report claims that over 10,000 app developers have already enabled the app tracking feature on their app.
A new report from the app analysis firm
AppFigures claims that over 10,000 apps on the App Store have already been updated to support the new App Tracking Transparency feature. The report says that most of the apps that have enabled ATT support are games.
