Amid accusations of political violence, civic polls to Tripura’s 14 municipalities began on Thursday. TMC officials on Thursday claimed that a party worker was beaten up in ward number 5 in Agartala, the state capital. However, the police could not confirm any untoward incidents.
A 'Battle Royale' is expected to ensue for elections between all political parties for the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and 13 other town civic bodies in Tripura on Thursday.
The two BJP MLAs, Asish Saha and Sudip Roy Burman in a press conference on Tuesday said that the Supreme Court, Tripura High Court, and even Union Home Minister Amit Shah had to intervene in the recent political violence ahead of the civic elections.
