LAHORE: An accountability court Friday refused to grant further physical custody of former Foreign Minister and PML-N leader Khawaja Asif to the National Accountability Bureau and sent him to jail on 14-day judicial remand.
An investigation officer of the NAB failed to satisfy the court about any significant development in the probe against Khawaja Asif due to which the court turned down the NAB s plea seeking further physical custody of the accused. NAB officials produced Khawaja Asif in the accountability court of Judge Jawad Ul Hassan. As the hearing commenced, NAB prosecutor Asim Mumtaz implored the court to grant 15-day extension in physical custody of the accused. He argued that a person, Rana Waheed, had deposited Rs30 million in the account of Khawaja Asif and admitted in his statement that he took the money from Khawaja and then deposited it in his account. LAHORE: An accountability court on Friday sent Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Khawaja Asif to jail on 14-day judicial remand in an assets beyond means case.
Accountability Court Judge Syed Jawadul Hassan conducted the proceedings, wherein the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials produced Asif on the expiry of his physical remand term.
NAB Prosecutor Asim Mumtaz requested the court to extend the physical remand of the PML-N leader for another 14 days as the investigation could not be completed. He apprised the court of progress made during the investigation and stated that Asif was questioned about the alleged amounts received in his accounts.

The NAB officials produced Khawaja Asif before the Accountability Court Judge Jawad Ul Hassan. The NAB’s Prosecutor Asim Mumtaz requested the court to extend 15-day physical remand of the accused. Asim informed the court that during the course of investigation it was revealed that Khawaja Asif had transferred money into a company account, which was owned by his servant. The prosecutor further claimed that one Tariq Meer, owner of a company ‘Tariq Meer and Company’ in his statement, has confessed that said company is a ‘Benami’ company of Khawaja Asif.
