The program was first launched in New York City in April in response to a growing number of reported incidents involving violence and crime against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Mira Mesa is home to San Diego s largest Filipino community. Local leaders kicked off the local campaign Monday at the Broken Yolk Cafe on Mira Mesa Boulevard. The anti-Asian Pacific Islander hate has increased in a way that we need to blow a whistle to debunk the myth that Asian Pacific Americans are silent, said Dr. Lilly Cheng.

Rep Steel speaks on House floor to condemn AAPI hate

Today Rep. Michelle Steel (CA-48) spoke on the House Floor about the rise in Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) hate, and her bipartisan resolution introduced earlier this year to condemn the hate crimes and hate incidents many in the AAPI community have faced. “It is heartbreaking to read the news stories of these crimes, and my heart goes out to all those who have been victims of this violence. I have experienced this type of discrimination and racism firsthand. I have been called racist slurs and been treated differently because I am Asian American. As a proud American, and someone who loves this country dearly, I take this rise in violence against our community very seriously,” Rep. Steel said.

Cincinnatians will rally against hate towards Asian Americans Sunday

View Comments Leaders from several organizations are gathering Sunday for a unite against hate protest that is being called, We are Cincinnati. Speakers will talk about rising violence and hate against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, according to information released by the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. The protest hopes to stand in solidarity with all who experience bigotry and hate in America. Speakers will include Woodrow Keown Jr., Freedom Center President & COO, Jeff Berding, president of FC Cincinnati; Patricia Collins, former head of the Department of African American Studies at the University of Cincinnati; Sarah Weiss, executive director of the Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center; and Rabbi Gary Zola among others.
