The 50-year-old man was also made to bite five chilies, a ruler was used by an officer to hit his private parts and they made fun of it. He was then detained for a night as he was an alleged suspect in the murder case of the man and his wife that were found dead in their home in Korokoro, Sigatoka on 2 February. Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission director Ashwin Raj said the officers took him to Nadroumai Village for a massage to treat his broken arms in the next morning.

Church denies abuse claims at Fiji orphanage

Church president Reverend Ili Vunisuwai said details of the alleged abuse are yet to verified. We have interviewed the head of the orphanage who is managing the home including the children who were alleged to have been abused, he said. Surely, if there is any evidence we will take action. Meanwhile, the Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commissioner said it had received a complaint lodged by a person alleging the abuse at the home. Ashwin Raj and the matter has also been referred to police.
