Ashraf Usmani, a spokesperson of Darul Uloom Deoband, described the step as being taken under the direction of the institution s Mohtamim (head) Abul Qasim Nomani.
The notice issued by the Islamic seminary has directed its students to not get any additional education, in English and other subjects, while studying at the institute. The seminary said there was no ban on English.
