Western Michigan students partner with Michigan State Police to crack unsolved murders

KALAMAZOO, MI A new program at Western Michigan University will pair criminal justice students with state police to help solve cold case murders.
The students at WMU will have “unprecedented” access to case files from unsolved murders in Southwest Michigan, according to a news release from WMU.
Michigan State Police Detective First Lt. Chuck Christensen estimates there are more than 20 unsolved homicide cases in the region that are more than a decade old. The students at Western will help organize and catalog cases for detectives, looking for potential new leads or evidence that could be revisited with modern technology, the release said.
