Ashley Shepherd, director of gifted services for the Western Buckeye Educational Service Center, announces that the 2021 Journal Gazette Van Wert County Spelling Bee will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 31, in the Lincolnview High School gym.
Immediate family members and grandparents of each speller are welcome to attend this event. Masks are required for all that enter, and while seated during the bee. Spectators are also asked to socially distance themselves from other families.
Twelve contestants representing seven Van Wert County schools, grades 5-8, will compete for the honor of representing the county in the Journal Gazette Regional Spelling Bee presented by STAR Financial Bank on March 6. The Regional Spelling Bee will be held in the Purdue University Fort Wayne Rhinehart Recital Hall at 10 a.m. that day. The winner of the Regional contest will go on to compete in the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
Police in North Yorkshire are asking for help to find a 32-year-old Lancashire man wanted in connection with a stolen car. Joe Ashley Shepherd has connections to Colne, Barrowford, Nelson, Burnley, Bolton and Failsworth, with his last known address being in Barnoldswick. Officers need to speak to him about an investigation into a stolen vehicle in the Cowling area of North Yorkshire, just north-east of Colne. A spokesperson for North Yorkshire police said: Despite repeated attempts to locate him, he remains wanted. Anyone who has seen him recently or knows where he is now is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 01904 618691 using reference number 12190183480 and pass information to the Force Control Room.

GANSEVOORT - It was a super-spreader event that could land a pair of area school teachers in super hot water.
It s a story with several unsettling circumstances that include: positive COVID tests, quarantining, and perhaps unlawfully dealing with minors, not to mention the hardship now facing thousands of families whose kids can t go to school when the new year begins.
The story beings in Gansevoort, Saratoga County back on December 18, at a house party attended by as many as 50 people. We had some kids who tested positive, it basically started early to mid last week, said Don Lehman, spokesman for Warren County.
