(ABC 6 News) - There are hiring signs all over town and lots of jobs available, but Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz wants employers to dig deeper when considering a new employee.
He is declaring July as Hire a Veteran Month saying we owe it to our vets to provide stability when they come home. We re asking all employers, thanks to the governor s proclamation, to give special attention to our veterans, especially those returning from deployment, Ray Douha, DEED s director of veterans employment services, said.
According to the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, of the 300,000 veterans living in Minnesota, 9,000 are currently unemployed.
