The square images on her Instagram page were rallying cries against a system Aurora Higgs has seen fail her community too many times.
Higgsâ posts on Instagram, where she has nearly 4,000 followers, have asked for direct donations to a Black transgender femme on the verge of homelessness, money so a friendâs mom who was diagnosed with cancer could pay the medical bills, and support through GoFundMe drives to help a trans woman avoid harassment on public transportation by providing money for a down payment on a car.
For nine months, this has been the unrelenting job the 30-year-old Black trans activist in Richmond and prison abolitionist has poured herself into: helping her neighbors survive the coronavirus pandemic.
